Just a Nice Quiet Ol' Guy

Belchertown - Herschel R. Jackson, 83, of N. Main St. passed away on May 12, 2009.

Born April 2, 1926 in Cairo, Illinois, son of John N. and Dovie (Garret) Jackson. Herschel was raised in McClure, Illinois and had lived in Athol, MA for 22 years before moving to Florida and returning to Belchertown where he has resided for the past 10 years. He was a WWII and Korean Veteran who served in the US Army for 20 years and the US Navy.

He was a member of the Athol and Belchertown V.F.W. He retired from F&D Tool as a machinist in Three Rivers after working for 15 years.

He is survived by two sisters Mary Nelson of St. Louis, Missouri and Hester Gray of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, two step-daughters Diane Richardson and Marilyn Coffin of Athol. He also leaves six grandchildren Kelly Hargett, Cindy, Pam and Randy Coffin, Sr., Michael and Jennifer Richardson, nine great-grandchildren Jessie Vallincourt, Mandy, Peter and Randy Coffin, Jr, Stacey Hargett, Nicole Martin, Eliza Graton, John Duguay and Kyle Langlois and three great- great grandchildren Tyler, Emily and Gavin Graton. He also leaves many friends at McCarthy's Pub, including close friend Janice McCarthy. Herschel was preceded in death by his loving wife Irene (Moore) in 1996.

Calling hours will be held from 5:00-6:30 p.m. at the Beers & Story Belchertown Funeral Home with a Service of Remembrance beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. A graveside service will be Friday at 10:15 a.m. at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Chicopee.
